It's day five of six on her first rotation back at Metro General Hospital and for as long as she's been out of a nursing job, things are going surprisingly well and was only made better after deciding to distance herself completely from Luke and Matt and Jessica. Or as much as she could without moving completely out of state and changing her name. The calls still come in, but they've slowed in the weeks since coming back from Cuba, which allowed her to put things back into perspective.

But, as with any 14-hour shift, Claire remembers the people that come in and it wasn't so offputting when a man who was in for stitches professed his love and proposed with a greasy onion ring. She stuck him with a tetanus shot and sent him on his way. Only what she didn't realize was that he would wait for her and then follow her home.

Two blocks away, he caught up with her again and before she could pull out her phone and call someone he knocks it out of her hand and sends it skittering down the sidewalk as he tries pulling her into a dark alley.

"Not a good idea, no." Claire agreed, shaking her head as she gulps down the last of her drink. She reaches for the bottle and pours them each another.

She leans over a little and looks at him, admiring his smile and knowing that once she drank that second drink she was liable to make some very bold decisions.

"I think I have some pie left. You want some?" Claire asks him as she stands up and teeters enough that she puts a hand down on his shoulder. Oh yeah, she's feeling pretty warm right about now. "Oops."

She supposed eventually it would happen, especially given all the violence that surrounded the guy and the fact that she was one of the few who took the patient regardless of who he was. That's how it went with Matt, Jessica, Luke, Danny and Colleen. So why not one more?

Honestly, she didn't expect the call, in fact, she never expected to see Frank Castle again after tending to him at Metro when they brought him in seriously injured, but alive and expected to heal enough to stand trial for all the deaths that came by his hand. Claire was told not to talk to him and she didn't. Not really and not directly to him, anyway. she spoke in her quiet, gentle voice about knowing someone like him and how she was scared that one day she would be tending to him like she was tending to him right then. He was unconscious, so that's why she did it.

Then he was gone and Claire left the hospital she committed close to a decade of her life to.

The call for help came from someone Claire didn't know, but who obviously knew her through the people she had dealt with and helped patch up. She could have refused -- or should've refused -- once she got there and realized who it was and how badly he was hurt. Frank was the portrait of death right then and the nurse had no idea if she could pull off saving him.

But she did. Barely.

Now she was sitting with an unconscious man again, thinking about losing Matt while waiting through the first 24 hours to make sure Frank didn't slip on her. She was tired, but not as tired as the two others who had brought him to the apartment suite and who were currently getting coffee's for them all.

May 24th. Claire stood looking at the calendar, thinking about that date and within moments, she smiles, placing a hand on her perfectly rounded stomach and can't help but go back to the very first day that her and Clint Barton met. She was six months out of nursing school and newly recruited into SHIELD's medical facility and he was one of the newer agents compared to others, though everyone seemed to know who he was, including her.

Their first meeting happened in one of the exam rooms; a general wellness check, both physically and mentally which was general protocol after each mission. Claire did her job, and he was cooperative, if not a little chatty. And though she was new and advised to stick to doing the basic exam of blood pressure, check that all limbs were intact and do a quick eye exam, it was hard not to go back and forth with him and before long she looked forward to seeing him every time he returned to headquarters.

Her thoughts are cut short by a fellow nurse stopping by to let her know that she had a phone call, so she waddles her way out to the main desk to take it. Even at nine and a half months pregnant, Claire continued to work. She knew Clint didn't like it, but she was where she felt she needed to be and if she went into labour and her husband wasn't close by, then that was where she would give birth to their first child. It made sense and he knew it did.

But time was ticking and after a weekly check-up two days before she learned she was already dilating which definitely meant they were looking at being parents sooner rather than later. Now if only the father would come back, Claire wouldn't be so tense.

Picking up the phone, she announced herself and waited for whoever was on the other end to answer.
