It's day five of six on her first rotation back at Metro General Hospital and for as long as she's been out of a nursing job, things are going surprisingly well and was only made better after deciding to distance herself completely from Luke and Matt and Jessica. Or as much as she could without moving completely out of state and changing her name. The calls still come in, but they've slowed in the weeks since coming back from Cuba, which allowed her to put things back into perspective.

But, as with any 14-hour shift, Claire remembers the people that come in and it wasn't so offputting when a man who was in for stitches professed his love and proposed with a greasy onion ring. She stuck him with a tetanus shot and sent him on his way. Only what she didn't realize was that he would wait for her and then follow her home.

Two blocks away, he caught up with her again and before she could pull out her phone and call someone he knocks it out of her hand and sends it skittering down the sidewalk as he tries pulling her into a dark alley.

Bucky is a chronic insomniac these days and today is no different. This isn't his normal neighborhood, having been in Manhattan or Brooklyn any time he's been in New York the last few years, but it's a damned good thing he is considering what he runs up on. He sees the asshole knocking a woman's phone from her hand and he lunges forward in two long strides, grabbing the guy with his left hand and nearly wrenching his arm from the socket.

The thing he doesn't expect is the knife to slide between his ribs and Bucky's pretty damn sure it's hit something vital considering his breath is short and he hasn't had that happen since before the serum. He does have enough left in him to break the guy's leg and not his neck and with him incapacitated, he has time to look at the woman he's saved.

"Just...trust me on this. I think this knife is holding in something vital and I'm gonna heal but you can't take it out until you can patch me. I'll explain it but you can't take me to a hospital. Not...a normal guy."
